Psalm and Praise, Day 5

“Because of my enemies.” Read Psalm chapter 5.

We asked God to do a lot of things for us for a lot of different reasons, but I found this request of David a bit unusual. David was asking God to lead him in righteousness, which is something that we should all be striving for. But the reason David asked for that was unusual. David asked God to lead him in righteousness because of his enemies. David’s enemies were driving David closer to God.

How do his enemies stand in the way of David’s ability to follow God and righteousness? Anyone that is standing between us and following God is an enemy. Because we have enemies, we need God’s help to walk in His way. Because we have those that are willing to stand between us and God, we need God’s help to navigate.

Have we specifically prayed and asked God to lead us in his righteousness because of our enemies? Do seek him more when we are faced with the challenges and difficulties in life? How can we see our enemies as something that drives us back to God in a greater and more meaningful way today?
