Go and Do, Day 3

What does your anger produce? Read James 1:19-21.

Every emotion that we have produces something both in our own life and in the lives of others around us. When we are happy, we can produce happiness in others. When we are encouraging, we can produce joy in others. However, the Bible here says that when we are angry with human anger, one thing we do not produce in others is God’s righteousness.

Sometimes it can be easy to feel that we have the right to be angry about something, and that when we act in that anger, we’re doing a good thing. After all, it feels very natural to want to teach someone a lesson. However, more often than not, our anger is simply a human anger where we ourselves are upset about something. That type of anger does not produce God’s righteousness.

Holy anger, or being angry about the things that God is angry about, that’s the anger that will produce results in the lives of others. God gets angry about sin. God gets angry about those who diminish his glory. Those are the things, the only things, that we are to be angry about. Being angry about how we are individually treated is not something we should be getting angry about because that is not going to produce God’s righteousness.

Do we get angry about sin around us, and in our own lives? Do we get angry when others mock God? Those are the only things worth getting angry for. Everything else, it does not achieve God’s righteousness.
