The Roman Road, Day 1

Step 1: we are all sinners. Read Romans 3:23.

For the next 5 days, we’re gonna walk through a message that has been referred to as the Roman road. In praying about where we should study next, I was struck by the importance of the gospel message. We all need to have a strong understanding of exactly what is the gospel? Why did Jesus come, and why does it matter? While many different evangelism tools have been created through the years, one of the first methods that I learned in order to share my faith was the “Roman Road.”

The Roman Road is a grouping of 5 verses from the book of Romans that spell out the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Today, we’re looking at the first one. We need to understand that God is holy and sovereign. We also need to realize that we are not. Sometimes one of the first and most impactful realizations that someone needs to come to before they can accept Christ as their Savior is that they actually need a Savior. Many people feel like things are all okay with their life. Sure they’re not great, but they’re not a terrible person. So, why would they need someone to save them?

Romans 3:23 spells out exactly why we need a Savior. God is glorious, and we fall short. When we think about the fact that we fall short of God’s glory, we have to recognize that there’s nothing we can do. It is simply a statement of fact. We fall short of God’s glory. When we understand how truly glorious God is, we can’t help but see ourselves, and all our failings. The first step down the road of salvation is to understand that we need a Savior. Are we aware of and repentant for all the sins in our life, because we are all sinners.
