The Reluctant Follower, Day 20

Choose Your Ending. Read Jonah 4:11.

Have you ever gotten to the end of a book or a movie and felt like they left issues unresolved? Have you been left wondering, “Wait? What happened next? How did it turn out?” Often, that’s how I feel when I read the end of the book of Jonah. We leave with God asking Jonah a question, and we never get Jonah’s answer.

God has been using this time with Jonah to help him understand just how much God values people. God is their creator and he desires to see everyone understand who he is and the glory due his name. Jonah was struggling to understand that, and God was working in his life to help him see the difference. The book finishes without us really understanding whether Jonah ever got the message.

Did Jonah ever come to the place where he understood how much God loved others? Did Jonah repent of his attitude of arrogance and pride? We’ll never know the answer until we get to heaven. Leaving the question out there like that is a challenge to each and every one of us. Do we understand how much God desires to see people come to know him? He is passionate about seeing people glorify Himself. Do we love and care for others the way God loves and cares for them? Don’t be like Jonah. Be passionate about leading people to Christ.
