The Roman Road, Day 3

Step 3: God’s amazing love.

We talk a lot about love in today’s culture. We encourage people to be loving toward others, and we want to see people act lovingly toward us. However, the truest demonstration of what love actually is came from God and it was demonstrated 2000 years ago by Jesus Christ.

As we learned in the previous two days, we are not worthy of love. We are sinners. The only thing we have earned as a result of our sin is death. That is what we deserve, and that is all we have ever earned. However, God made the decision that he loved us. We can know for sure that he loved us because he demonstrated that love.

Step 3 on the Roman Road is God’s incredible love for us. Romans 5:8 describes a tremendous demonstration of love. We were still sinners. We were evil people with nothing redeeming about ourselves. We cannot possibly earn or deserve God’s love. And yet, he still made the decision to send Jesus Christ to die on our behalf. When we talk about our need for Christ, we have to understand just how desperate we truly are without him and just how mind-blowing it is that God would have sacrificed his own son on our behalf.

We had not done anything earn or deserve it. And yet, God choose to love us. Not just to say that he loves us, but to demonstrate that love through Jesus Christ on the cross. We can never truly understand just how much God loves us, but this verse helps us to get a picture of just how desperate our situation is and what love actually looks like. Love is sacrifice on behalf of someone who doesn’t deserve it and can’t earn it. God loves us and that is a tremendous the truth that should live out in our life today.
