Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 24

Asking for help, and not getting it. Read Daniel 4:4-7.

There have been a number of times that I have asked for help and not gotten it, and that’s always frustrating. That can look like different things at different times. Sometimes I ask for help and people help me, but not in the way, I was expecting. Other times I ask for help, but I ask the wrong people and they don’t really know how to help me, which is equally frustrating. The king experienced this second situation. He was at a place where he did not know what to do and he was willing to ask for help, but no one was able to help him.

Obviously, that’s frustrating, but even more so when it’s a king. The king feels like he should be in control and in charge of everything. However, the first thing that he admits in a letter to his entire kingdom is that he needed help and no one was able to help him. Leading through challenging circumstances means admitting when you need help.

Are you willing to look at your life and recognize the opportunities that you have in the areas where you need help? Are you willing to ask for help? As we see, it matters who you ask help from. The king was asking for help from a lot of people, but they were not able to help him. He was asking the wrong people. Are we asking the right people? When we need help, if we’re not asking the right people, we are not going to receive the help that we need and that God has planned for us.
