ADHD Gospel, Day 8

Supreme. Read Mark 2:13-28.

Jesus is continuing his ministry and as he does so, we see an interesting theme in their conversations play out through these verses. Jesus’s disciples are doing several things and the pharisees, or other church leaders, are upset about it. They come and they complain and Jesus explains that he is greater than whatever it is. They are complaining about. Sometimes, it’s about what they’re doing on the Sabbath. Sometimes it’s about how he’s teaching. Ultimately, God seeks to help us understand that he is supreme over everything else in this world.

People can say a lot of things, and they can think a lot of things, but at the end of the day, God truly is the one that is over everything. We cannot overstate how incredible God truly is. When God created the world, he created it for himself. When God created the sabbath for rest, he created that and said specifically, that was for us to rest. The leaders and rulers had made it something that was so legalistic that they couldn’t even rest during that time.

God is saying they had gotten that whole concept wrong. Jesus is actually over the sabbath. He is Lord of the sabbath and the sabbath was given to us as a gift. Do we find our opportunities for rest and do we use those as a way to glorify God, understanding that God wanted us to rest in the best ways possible? God is supreme over everything, and we are to follow him.
