ADHD Gospel, Day 48

We don’t know. Read Mark 11:27-33.
Often it seems like the three most scary words that we can say is that “we don’t know.” These words convey a vulnerability that oftentimes people aren’t willing to admit. I’ve seen people make up answers or outright lie just to avoid having to tell someone that they don’t know the answer to something. Here in these verses, we see an interesting situation. Jesus is being questioned by people who aren’t sincere, but are just trying to trip up Jesus and make him look foolish in front of the crowd. Jesus responds to their question with a question of his own.
The leaders weren’t ready for this question and they certainly weren’t sure how to answer it. They were trying to look wise in front of the crowd and now they were backed into a corner. Often we can find ourselves backed into a proverbial corner. We want to understand situations or find a way to work through a situation that we don’t really know or understand. As a result, we find ourselves stuck with a question that we either can’t answer or just really don’t want to answer.
Often the start to our relationship with God comes from a place of admitting that we don’t know. We don’t know how to save ourselves. We don’t know what our purpose in life is. We don’t know why God allowed something to occur. We spend a lot of time not knowing, but it’s only when we admit that we don’t know will we begin to see how much God does know. Are we leaning into all the things we don’t know? Are we seeking, not to know everything, but to better know the one who already does know everything?
