ADHD Gospel, Day 57

Leadership fail. Read Mark 15:1-16.
Pilate was in a position of leadership. As the Roman ruler over the Jewish area, he was constantly dealing with all of the drama that was incessant between the Jews and the Romans. They didn’t like each other. The Jews were mad that the Romans were occupying their area. There were constant uprisings, battles, fights, and the like that we’re needing to be quashed. In Pilate’s mind, this is just another example of the Jews bringing him somebody that they’re upset about so that he will deal with it. In fact, he already had another insurrectionist being held prisoner in his dungeons.
Given that scenario a lot of people would completely understand Pilate just wanting to give the people what they want so they’ll be quiet and leave him alone. However, as any parent of a small child has learned, if you just give in to what the screaming child wants that does not solve the greater problems and issues that will arise. Pilate needed to display some leadership. Pilate should have made the decision that he wanted to make instead of being swayed by public opinion and popular vote.
When we are in leadership positions, do we make our decisions based on what is deemed to be right? Or do we make decisions based on external pressure and outside viewpoints? Pilate had an opportunity for leadership, and he failed. Are we going to stay focused on our opportunities for leadership today?
