Change of Plans, Day 12

Return, Maintain, and Wait. Read Hosea chapter 12.

Often, we tend to really like checklists. We want a list of what we need to get done and accomplish so that we can feel like we have succeeded. When we look at all that God is asking of us, it can be really hard to boil it down to just a checklist. At the end of the day, we are simply to commit our whole self to him.

When we think about what does that look like on a regular basis, this verse gives us some ideas that we can add to our daily practice. We are to return to the Lord. For these people and in this case, returning refers to the fact that they had been with God, had left him, and need to go back. Sometimes we have committed ourselves to the Lord but have slipped and fall. We need to recommit ourselves; we need to return. Then, we need to maintain love and justice. There’s some characteristics and traits that should be key points of our lives. We should return and maintain.

Finally, we are to wait while we are maintaining the characteristics that God has for us. It can be really easy to want to jump ahead and do other things, and yet God is sharing with us that we are to wait on him. God will do what God wants to do, in his time. We need to make sure that we are attentive and seeking after him, patient in all that he is.

Are we waiting on the Lord? When we look at our life today, is it characterized by these 3 words? Are we returning to the Lord, if we have strayed away,? Are we maintaining the character that we need to? Are we waiting on him in every area of our life?
