Christian Devotional – April 18, 2019

The big reveal. This whole time we have been hearing this story about two women who waited on the Lord and saw him work move their lives. Now, we see how these two women are related to the bigger picture of the history of the Jewish people and of the line of Jesus Christ. Read Ruth 4:14-22.

The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi!” So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. Now these are the generations of Perez: to Perez was born Hezron, and to Hezron was born Ram, and to Ram, Amminadab, and to Amminadab was born Nahshon, and to Nahshon, Salmon, and to Salmon was born Boaz, and to Boaz, Obed, and to Obed was born Jesse, and to Jesse, David.

The story leads to line of David, the great king of Israel. Without this amazing story of redemption, patients, and obedience, Israel would never have seen their greatest king be born. When we are following through on what God has given us, we have no way of knowing the long term impact and legacy that we will leave behind for others.

Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz. These three people are a wonderful example of how we are to not just know and understand what God’s word has for us, but we should be doing it. As we go about following through on what we know to do, we see lives changed and people touched with the truth and the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Are we willing to wait when we need to wait? Are we willing to endure the difficulties? Are we willing to step up and act when we know it’s time to act? Knowing the things that they knew about God was never enough. They had to take action, and so do we. Every day.
