Christian Devotional – August 11, 2014
VERSE:
Lamentations 2:14–The visions of your peoples were false and worthless; they did not expose your sin to ward off your captivity. The prophecies they gave you were false and misleading.
TRUTH:
The people had suffered the consequences of their actions, yet they were surprised and confused. After all, they had prophets; why didn’t they know this was coming? Jeremiah, the writer, is telling the people that the prophets they had were just telling them what they wanted to hear. The people didn’t want to think they were living in sin and disobedience. They wanted to just do what they wanted, so they had “yes men” who told them sweet lies instead of being willing to tell and hear the truth. Are we willing to listen to the truth, or do we reject the truth to listen to people who tell us what we want to hear instead?
RESPONSE:
Father, no matter what I am doing, I want to hear Your truth. I want to know when I am headed down the wrong path so I can correct it. I pray You will help me seek after You even when Your truth is hard and uncomfortable. I don’t want to be misled by lies.
