Begin Again, Day 11

Strange and odd. Read Joshua chapter 6.
The battle has started. The people of Israel are going to attack the city of Jericho. This incredible city is heavily fortified, and has been walled up and closed off since the people crossed over the Jordan river. There is no way through the wall or through the gates. Yet, that didn’t stop God.
God gave the people of Israel some unusual directions. This is not a battle plan that anybody would have ever drawn up. And, I can’t imagine the planning meeting where Joshua would have communicated to the team what God had told him to do. That would have been quite the meeting!
Why do we expect God to do logical things? When we read the Bible, we see all of the completely amazing and outstanding things that God does, that didn’t make a bit of logical sense in the moment. We can’t explain them. We can’t understand them. But, we can trust God and follow through in obedience with them.
That’s what God is asking us every day. God wants us to trust him and to be willing to do what he’s asked us to do. It seems completely bizarre. So many times I’m sure Joshua, and many of the people of Israel were completely unsure of this plan. But, they trusted God enough to actually do it. They got up and they walked around the city, one lap every day for 6 days.
What do we need to get up and do today that God has told us to do, so that we can be sure we’re following him. No matter if it’s unusual, illogical, unexplainable, there’s a plan that God has for our lives and we are responsible for following through.
