Four of the Letters, Day 2

Do we seek the opinions of some more than others? Read Galatians chapter 2.

Paul is continuing to explain his criteria and qualifications for being able to preach the gospel. As he explains, he came to Jerusalem to share with them what he had been preaching to the gentiles. He explains that he met with certain people who would have been considered celebrities in the church during that time. Still, even meeting with people that were of that high esteem, that didn’t change his message of truth. God had provided him truth through the scripture, and Paul wasn’t going to deviate for that, even in the midst of high level celebrity type Christians.

Paul knew that they could not offer him any additional truth to what God had already given him, But they could provide accountability and additional perspective of how God was using that truth and could use that truth in the lives of the people that Paul was speaking with.

Do we seek to understand God’s truth directly for ourselves? Yes, we can go to amazing preachers and commentaries and other sources that will help us to understand God’s word, but truth ultimately comes from God and his word alone. We should not have favorites when it comes to understanding truth, unless our favorite is God himself.
