The Voice of the Prophet, Day 29

The Hypocrite. Read Isaiah chapter 29.

As God continues sharing about judgment of the people, we read this verse. The people are telling God that they love him, but in actuality, their hearts don’t demonstrate that.

Often, people who are frustrated with churches and church people accuse them of being hypocrites. A hypocrite is someone who says one thing and yet, does something else. In a lot of cases, there’s truth to the accusation in churches. The Christian life is about denying yourself and living for Christ. We can all admit that some days we do that better than others. Some days we follow through on the things that God has for us to do. Some days we struggle and our actions don’t lineup with what our words say.

God is holding the people accountable to ensure that their hearts are what is truly aligned, and it’s not just there lips. There are going to be hypocrites in every church. There are going to be hypocrites outside of church. Every single one of us says one thing and does something else. We can know and understand that God loves us and God died for us. Even though we don’t always follow through on what we say, he always will. We can trust God.

Our job is to point people to God, realizing that only he is the one who’s going to fulfill their needs and desires. Are we trusting in the Lord? Are our hearts seeking God as well as our lips praising him? They are to both be aligned. We need Christ so that we won’t be a hypocrite.
