Observations from the Doctor, Day 17

Meh Christianity. Read Luke chapter 14.

The English language continues to change and morph. New words are added every year as we find new ways to express ourselves. One of my favorite recent additions is “meh.” It’s the perfect descriptor for a variety of circumstances where you just don’t really have a strong opinion.

“Where do you want to go eat?” Meh

“How is your day going?” Meh

“What did you think of that movie?” Meh

In so many ways, we have become a society that isn’t strongly passionate about many things. We just sort of relax back and go with the flow. And while that does make a lot of things simpler, it doesn’t necessarily make them better.

Jesus never called people to a “meh” existence. He called people to a life of purpose and passion for him. Unfortunately, a lot of people have allowed their Christianity to best be described as “meh.” We might attend church sometimes, we pray on occasion, and we read our Bible if we think about it. But, we aren’t passionately sold out to Christ. We aren’t deeply committed to Him in every area and facet of our life. We struggle to even know our understand what that would look like. And yet, Christ calls us to be completely sold out to him.

Every area of our life is to be submitted to the will of Christ. Are we languishing in our Christianity? We will never see God work and move in our life the way he wants to until we are sold out to him, just as Jesus describes in this chapter. Don’t suffer from “meh” Christianity. Commit your life to him fully today.
