Praising the Word, Day 4

No automatic understanding. Read Psalm 119:25-32.
As we read through this fourth section of Psalm 119 representing the Hebrew letter Daleth, we see that our relationship with God and his word is something we must actively choose. We cannot passively fall into a relationship with God and his word. We must actively choose to listen to him and to seek him. He is the one who must grant understanding.
We’ll never truly understand God’s word apart from his Holy Spirit’s guidance and interpretation. People who do not follow Christ struggle to understand what the Bible means because they do not have the Holy Spirit to guide them. People who are Christians also struggle sometimes to understand what the Bible means because God is the one who ultimately causes understanding. God will help us understand his word in his time and his way.
God’s word is also living and active. This means that we can read a passage at one time and understand one truth. Then we can come back to that passage the next day or next week or next year and understand something new and fresh and different from the same passage.
Are we seeking to understand the Bible and how it applies to our lives today? Are we seeking God, and is he we’re bringing about understanding so that we can live in a way that is pleasing the Lord?
