At the Right Moment, Day 5

Managing the emotional swing. Read Esther chapter 5.

Esther finally takes action. She goes to the presence of the king and fortunately, the king receives her and allows her to come into his presence. Instead of just blurting out her request, she invites the king and Haman to a banquet. Here we see Haman go through an incredible emotional rollercoaster. He goes to the banquet and is super excited to be requested by the Queen to come to the banquet. He goes he enjoys himself and then he comes out and he sees Mordecai not bowing before him. He is immediately flipped to rage and anger.

When we think about our emotions, we have to realize that we are to be in control of our emotions, our emotions should not control us. Our responses to a situation is paramount to ensuring that we are pleasing God. Haman allows his emotions to swing on a pendulum, from super excited to completely irate in just a matter of moments. Because of that, he does not understand the peace of God.

Being ready at the right moment means being in control of our emotions. Life is full of things that are going to happen to us that make us happy, and make us sad, and make us excited, and make us angry. Part of our ability to demonstrate maturity is to find a way to allow God to to be our joy so that we’re not dependent on our circumstances for joy. If we are relying on the circumstances around us to make us happy, we will be constantly up and down, and up and down. Are we steadfast in our relationship with Jesus Christ? Do we allow only him, and his circumstances, to impact us and our emotions.
