Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 53

Corporate repentance. Read Daniel 9:4-8.
While we may have a difficult time with the idea of repentance, the concept of corporate repentance is even more foreign to most of us. We struggle to take accountability and responsibility for our own wrongdoings, let alone being willing to collectively come together and admit our wrongdoing as a group. For an individualistic culture, like the United States where I am, this can be an especially difficult concept to grasp. In some other cultures, where they are more community minded and focused, this is still difficult, but maybe not as foreign of a concept.
This prayer and Daniel’s example here is leadership at its finest. Leading through positive and exciting circumstances is important, however leading through corporate accountability and responsibility is almost unheard of these days. Daniel is leading in a prayer of repentance for the entire people of Israel. He indicates that this is for people scattered wherever throughout the nations. Daniel does this because he knows the entire reason these people are scattered is because of their collective disobedience.
Today, as a leader of a group, do we corporately and collectively take responsibility and beg for forgiveness? We need to be able to lead in such a way that we can recognize the value and the power of repenting to God corporately. Are you willing to come together and repent together to the Lord, so that we as a group can be made right and be obedient together? We need to be willing to be part of the repentance process and lead through it, even when it’s for an entire group.
