VERSE:
Isaiah 39:8–The Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “For there will be peace and truth in my days.”
TRUTH:
In a moment of pride, King Hezekiah boasted about his riches and showed off his treasures for visitors from another country. Isaiah tells him that one day this other country will come and attack and will take all those treasures for their own, but this won’t happen for many years and will be during Hezekiah’s son’s reign. What is Hezekiah’s response? He is thankful that at least his reign will have peace. He doesn’t look or show concern for the long-term ramification of his actions. Are we concerned about the long-term consequences of our actions or are we only focused on ourselves and how things will affect us personally.
RESPONSE:
Father, You see such a big picture. Help me to see as You see and to be mindful of the long-term consequences and affects of my actions. Forgive my prideful and arrogant attitude that feels that things are all about me.
