Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 18

Not everyone appreciates when you have integrity. Read Daniel 3:19-23.
When you choose to take a stand and maintain integrity in situations, not everybody is going to love that. There will be people who actually really wish that you would just go along with the flow and do whatever anybody else is doing. People with integrity do not always fit in.
Unfortunately, the world does not always have integrity and when other people do, it can be very difficult to manage through that situation. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego figured that out quickly. They shared their convictions with the king and explained to him the integrity that they were going to live their life by. The king became irate. Their stance did not align with his requests at all. And as a result, the king made a decision to destroy these 3 men. In fact, his decision was so emotional and rage-filled that it resulted in the deaths of his soldiers and helpers who went about trying to obey the king’s command.
When we choose to have integrity and to follow Christ in every area of our life, we have to understand and accept that we will make people angry. There will be people who will be set on destroying us. There will be people who want to see us fail. Just expect it. Part of leading through challenging circumstances includes situations where the people we work under or are being led by do not agree with us and do everything they can to trip us up. If they can’t trip us up, then they do everything they can to get rid of us.
Being a person who won’t back down does put a target on your back, but we know that following Christ is more worthwhile than following any one or anything else. After all, obeying the king in his rush of anger didn’t workout very well for these soldiers who fell into the fire.
