Hope, Day 3

Redeemed. Read 1 Peter 1:17-25.

The idea of redeeming something is not a concept that we typically use a lot these days. To redeem something refers to gaining or regaining possession of something in exchange for payment. This is more than just purchasing something. Redeeming adds the idea of restoring the item being redeemed.

In these verses, we see Peter discussing our lives and how we have been living them. We have been working through and living our lives with as much goal and purpose as we can. However, because of sin in the world, our lives are a disaster. The people then had been trying to redeem themselves by using all the earthly methods we typically think of. Peter very clearly states that none of these will sufficiently redeem our lives. Our lives are only redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ. When we think about the value that we have, we are worth the life of God’s own son. That is the price of redemption and that is what he was willing to pay for us to see us restored.

We have hope because we have been redeemed by Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection gives us everything we need. Through Him, we have been purchased and restored in every way.
