The Reluctant Follower, Day 12

100% conversion rate. Read Jonah 3:5-9.

There are many preachers across the world who preach a sermon on a Sunday morning, and desperately hope to see a handful of people respond in repentance to God. I know here in the US, where I am, many churches go months if not years without seeing a person come down the aisle to give their life to Christ.

Jonah didn’t want to deliver this sermon. Jonah wasn’t happy about giving the message. Jonah didn’t give the people any kind of hope when he preached that message, like we saw yesterday. But even with that message, God used the words of Jonah and the obedience of Jonah to impact the entire city of Nineveh.

As we read through these verses, we see that people immediately turned and sought God in repentance. They were broken for their disobedience. Even the king commanded everyone to pray and repent, thinking just maybe God might relent and spare them out of compassion.

Ultimately, we have to remember, it is not about the eloquence of the preacher; it is about the power of God. If people will simply rely on the power of God, God can impact lives. We will see people broken about their sin and seeking God in repentance. No human can create the conviction that only the Holy Spirit can bring. We are simply to be obedient and do what God has told us to do. God is the one responsible for the results in this situation. In this case, God chose to allow the entire city the opportunity to hear that they needed him.

Are we praying for God to move and work through us? And are we being obedient to doing everything that God told us to do? The results are up to God. We are simply to be obedient. Are we being obedient to what God has called us to today?
