The Reluctant Follower, Day 17

Be where you are supposed to be. Read Jonah 4:5.

As a child growing up, my parents were very strict about making sure that they knew were I was at all times. They didn’t want a situation where we would be at a store and I would wander off from them. They wanted to make sure that I was where I was supposed to be.

Jonah has delivered his message to Nineveh. He fulfilled all that God had told him to do. But yet, Jonah didn’t head home. He stayed there. More than that, he stayed there with a negative motive because he wanted to see the city get destroyed. Jonah has spent most of this who book not being where he was supposed to be. God has told him to go, but he didn’t want to. Now that he is there, he doesn’t want to leave. Jonah ends up being disobedient to God again, and again, it’s because Jonah isn’t where he is supposed to be.

Are we going where God tells us to go? Are we staying when God tells us to stay? We are responsible to make sure that we are where God wants us to be. If we are spending time being somewhere we aren’t supposed to be, we can just expect that bad things are going to happen. Are we staying focused on God and ensuring that we are being where he wants us to be?
