The Voice of the Prophet, Day 5

The story of the vineyard. Read Isaiah chapter 5.

As this chapter starts, the prophet begins telling a story. God is speaking and explaining about a vineyard. God created a vineyard and planted it and did everything he could for it to set it up for success. But, the vineyard only ever produced bag grapes. God asks the question, “Is there something additional I could have done that that would have caused the vineyard to have been successful and productive?”

The question for them, is there something additional that would have helped the people to understand their loyalty and commitment to God? He loved them and cared for them and provided for them. But, the people did not respond. As he goes through the rest of the chapter. He explains that the vineyard is Israel and that there are so many things that they have been guilty of doing.

The question for us, are we living up to the potential that God has for us? He has created us. He has gifted us. He has placed us in situations and opportunities where we can demonstrate his glory to others. Are we seeking to submit to him and demonstrate his glory to others? Are we bearing good fruit and producing good grapes, or will God need to redirect us, just like the people of Israel. God has given you everything you need, and placed you exactly where he wants you, in order for you to be obedient to him. The question becomes, will we?
