Read 2Timothy chapter 4
VERSE:
2 Timothy 4:7–I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.
TRUTH:
Many people believe that this is the last book that Paul wrote before he was executed. Here we see Paul looking back on his life and giving this evaluation. He has fought the good fight. He has finished the race. He has kept the faith. These are simple phrases with such profound meaning and impact. Paul knew that he had been running a race here on the earth. He had a fight that needed to be fought. Paul fought that fight. He kept his eyes ever facing forward on what the goal was in this life. Paul knew that, while not perfect, he had made decisions every day that resulted in the Lord being lifted up and His name glorified and shared throughout the world. As we evaluate our life and our decisions, would we be able to say the same as Paul? If not, that’s OK, we need to repent and start with today making the decisions that are based on eternal value. We need to fight the good fight; finish the race; keep the faith.
RESPONSE:
Father, it’s hard to remember this day after day while being bombarded with all the things of this world. I pray that You will forgive me and cleanse me and train my eyes to see only You and the finish line of the race. Keep me focused on You today so that today I may fight the good fight, and then each day after that.
