The Voice of the Prophet, Day 1

Turn around! Read Isaiah chapter 1.
We’re going to spend the next couple of months going through the book of Isaiah. Isaiah has some of the most profound prophecies in the entire Bible, and it’s one of the most quoted books of the Bible. New Testament books often quote from the book of Isaiah as they describe prophecy fulfillment. And even Jesus himself read from the book of Isaiah, when he was preaching.
We know that Isaiah had a tremendous background history. He was a prophet to the kings of Israel. He had the reputation of being one of God’s servants and the kings themselves would call for him and seek his advice and counsel. This first chapter of Isaiah starts where many prophets start, and that is with the sin and rebellion of the people of Israel.
Isaiah wants the people to understand that God sees their sin, he knows what they’ve been doing, and he’s not okay with it. God desires them to come to him in repentance. Verse 18 shares the promise of what happens when we come to God in repentance. Even though our sins have made us filthy and stained, we can be made as white as snow. We can be completely cleansed through the power of God in our lives.
As we consider the voice of the prophet over the next 2 months, are we hearing him speak in our own life? First, he calls us back in repentance, reminding us that our sin has damaged us and stained us and only through Christ can we be made right with him. God, through Isaiah, promises we can be made as white as snow. Have we accepted that promise?
