No Distractions, Day 14

Get rid of the distractions! Read Galatians 4:21-31.
As we finish out chapter 4, Paul is giving an example of how we can be distracted and how we need to get rid of the distractions. Paul reminds the people of the story of Abraham. When Abraham tried to jump ahead of God’s promise, he had a son with his wife’s servant Hagar. It became a situation where he had a son of the slave woman and a son of the free woman.
Paul reminds the people that this is exactly how we are before we come to Christ. We are sons of the law verses being sons of the freedom. When we accept Christ, we are adopted into God’s family, but just like the situation with Abraham, we have to get rid of all of the things that were part of our time under the law. Abraham had to send away Hagar and Ishmael. We need to send away everything that is from our flesh. We can’t leave it around us. It doesn’t need to be anywhere near us where it can tempt us or taunt us or influence us in any way. We have to send it away.
What are we keeping close by that we need to let go of. What else is influencing us that shouldn’t be? Having no distractions means that we are intentionally moving ourselves away from the things that could potentially distract us. Are we taking those steps today?
