Begin Again, Day 40

Legacy. Read Joshua chapter 24.

As we go through the final verses of this incredible chapter, we see 3 burials. First, the people of Israel bury Joshua. He has passed away at a 110 years old, and he has left a tremendous legacy. The people continue to follow the Lord, not just through his lifetime, but also through the lifetime of those people who outlived him. They kept their promise to God. They had seen and experienced all that the Lord was doing, and as a result, made the choice to follow God.

We also see the burial of Joseph. Joseph made the people promise that when they left Egypt, they would take his bones and bury him in the peomised land. They have been carrying these bones for over 70 years through the desert and during the conquest of the land and up are now burying those bones in the promised land, just as Joseph made them promise. Joseph left a legacy of looking forward and anticipating the promise of God.

Finally we have Eleazar, he was the son of Aaron and was the priest. He had continued to follow God through all of the ups and downs. He served the Lord as high priest and served the children of Israel as high priest. These three men speak of an incredible legacy of obedience and service to God.

As we begin again, the most effective way to begin something new is to keep in mind how we want to finish. What does the finish look like? How successful are we? How much are we continuing to point people to God? We are to begin anew every single day with our commitment and obedience to Christ, and we are to do so keeping in mind the legacy that we want to leave years from now.

What is the legacy that you are leaving for those that will come after you? Do they see the life of Christ fully and completely in everything that you do?
