The Coming King, Day 23 Jesus is born!! Read Luke 2:10-11. Merry Christmas! Jesus has been born and today is the day that we celebrate his birth. The angels announced his birth to a group of shepherds in the field. They explained that the Savior, the Messiah, the Christ had been born. The amazing thing about this birth was that this was God coming to Earth. God in the flesh now on Earth in human form. However, that’s not the end of the story. While celebrating Christ’s birth is of amazing importance, the bigger importance is because of what Christ would do later in his life when he died on…

The Coming King, Day 22 God’s peace guards us. Read Philippians 4:7. The peace of God is an amazing thing. Often we don’t think about peace being powerful, but scripture says that God’s peace guards us. God’s peace does for our heart and mind what a bodyguard does. There is something that blocks us from the difficulty and harm that is waiting for us, seeking to destroy us. Are we seeking for the peace of God? Do we recognize it for the power that it is? Allow God’s peace to guard our heart and mind from all that Satan throws at it today.

The Coming King, Day 21 God’s peace is not our peace. Read John 14:27. God gives us peace, as we saw in previous verses this week, but God’s peace is not based on our definition of what peace is. God’s peace is based upon his definition of peace. God’s peace is beyond our true understanding. Only through Christ can we experience calm assurance and peace even when everything around us is chaotic and falling apart. When we think of peace do we recognize that it is truly from him and is not about our perception? We can find true peace in Christ regardless of the situation we find ourselves in.

The Coming King, Day 20 We are not entitled to peace. Read Psalm 29:11. So often we feel that we are owed a peaceful life or that for some reason we are entitled to have peace as a result of what we have done. The truth is that we are not entitled to peace. Peace is a blessing from God. We do not earn or deserve it. God chooses to allow us to experience it as a blessing. When we look at our life, we know that the peace that we have is a direct result of what God is allowing us to experience. Are we following Christ? Are we…

The Coming King, Day 19 The Prince of Peace. As we look this week at God’s peace, we see that Jesus came as the Prince of Peace. Read Isaiah 9:6. When Jesus came, it was foretold that he would be the prince of peace. God’s peace is found in everything that Jesus did. He was never frantic or hurried. He never was “too busy” for people. Jesus brought peace. Do we have peace in our lives. Even more, do we bring peace to the lives of others through the way we treat them and interact with them? Jesus is the Prince of Peace and as we allow him to control…

The Coming King, Day 18 Peace. Christ came to bring peace. Read 2 Thessalonians 3:16. As we come to the 4th Sunday of advent, we are learning about peace. The peace of God can transcend all of our understanding and is only found through Jesus Christ. We have to allow God’s peace into our life. If we are not surrendered to the authority of Christ each and every day in our lives, we will not experience his peace. When we think about the peace of God, does our life represent that peace? Would others who look at our life characterize it as one of peace? Having the peace of God…

The Coming King, Day 17 Joy because of who God is and the fact of his ruling. Read Psalm 146:6-11. God is the ruler of all things and He is the overall authority. Because of that fact, we can have joy. Our joy is in the character of who God is and all that he does for us. Without him, we wouldn’t understand what joy is. Do we know God and understand him? Do we find joy in all that he does?

The Coming King, Day 16 Joy for all. As we read today, we see that the joy is to be for all people, not just a few people. Read Luke 2:10-11. As we look at the angel message to the shepherds, we see the emphasis on joy. This joy is not just for the shepherds, but it is for all people everywhere. Joy is for all people in all times. You and I have joy today just like the angel said we would 2000 years ago. All of this is because of the birth of Jesus. As we think about and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, God reminds…

The Coming King, Day 15 Christ is coming again, restore our joy. Read Psalm 51. We have such amazing joy in the Lord. His presence in our life and the way he interacts with us creates amazing amounts of joy. However, sin separates us from that joy and fellowship with Christ. As we look today, we can understand that repentance is the path to restoration. That restoration includes not only our relationship with Christ, but also our joy. As the psalmist says, restore the joy of my salvation. Do we truly enjoy the joy that God provides? Are we restored in our salvation? As we celebrate this time of year…

The Coming King, Day 14 We have peace in Christ and he never causes us to stumble. Today we are looking at Matthew 11:2-11. Looking at peace this week while we anticipate and celebrate the coming king, this story may not be exactly what we think of when we think of peace. John the Baptist definitely did not feel peace in this moment. He questioned who Jesus was and whether or not all that he had believed was true. God knows that circumstances come up when we question who he is and we question whether we can truly trust in him and believe in him. Christ provided this reminder for…
