Hope, Day 6

Follow the example. Read 1 Peter 2:18-25.

Every teacher knows that having an example is pretty much required to help their students understand and grasp a concept. Many teachers have shared countless hours of lectures of concepts and theories and philosophies, but we all know that it doesn’t really click for the students until they see an example. Seeing that example and understanding what something looks like in real life helps us to bridge the gap between theory and application.

Peter indicates here that Christ is our example. The people had the law and they thought they had understood what it meant. They thought they knew the theory behind being pleasing to God, but they had not actually seen what that looked like and they didn’t understand what it being lived out really meant. They were trying, but Jesus Christ came as the example for us. He lived the life that God was demanding, and some of the things that he lived out looked differently than what the religious leaders of the day thought it should look like. He was the example to follow. He understood God’s laws better than we ever will, and everything he did was perfectly in line with God’s desires.

We also have to understand that, as our example, he experienced suffering and persecution and mistreatment as a result of what he was living out. He was also our example on how to handle and deal with those situations, and to know that that will come. Are we seeking to follow Christ in everything we do? He is our example and our lives are to mirror his.
