Hope, Day 13

Are you the most humble person you know? Read 1 Peter 5:1-7.

My husband and I have a running joke with each other. One of us will do something well and then tell the other one our “greatness.” Then the other person will say, “Yes, and you are also the most humble person I know.” We’ll both laugh at the irony because humility is the exact opposite of boasting and pride.

As we read through these verses today, we are reminded that we are to humble ourselves before the Lord. This doesn’t mean that we put ourselves down or talk negatively about ourselves. On the contrary, true humility doesn’t have any issue talking about the great things we are involved in. The difference is that humility knows who gets the credit for the amazing things that we do.

God is the only reason that we have the ability to do anything. God is who deserves the credit for the wins in our lives. Demonstrating humility is about doing awesome things, but then giving the credit to the one who deserves it. God is the only reason we are successful in anything and he deserves all the credit. That is how we show humility. Humility isn’t about putting ourselves down, it’s about lifting God up.
