Change of Plans, Day 13

Are you satisfied? Read Hosea chapter 13.
My husband is a pastor and together we have been in ministry for almost 30 years. We have a passion for discipleship and seeing people live out their Christian faith daily. In many cases, the people that we have seen the most growth and excitement in have come from those who are not satisfied. Maybe they weren’t satisfied with their marriage, or with their family. Maybe they weren’t satisfied with their prayer life or their Bible reading. Maybe they weren’t satisfied with life in general. Those people were the people that were willing to make changes and to do whatever it took in order to deepen their relationship with God. Those people were hungry for something more and willing to do whatever it took to get more out of their relationship with God.
There is danger in being satisfied. God points it out to the people of Israel here. God blessed them and they became satisfied. Their feeling of satisfaction turned into a feeling of pride. That pride told them that they had provided all these things for themselves, which made them think they didn’t need God. I’ve seen the same progression today. People get comfortable, and as a result they start to forget where their blessings came from in the first place. The start to think that they earned those blessings, or even deserve them. That pride becomes arrogance and self-reliance, which in turn, keeps us from seeing how God works and moves in our lives.
Are we satisfied? Or, do we seek more from our life and from our relationship with God? We are to rest in God, but we are to always be seeking to know Him better or demonstrate our love for Him in deeper ways. Don’t get to the place where pride starts to lie to you that you deserve and have earned the blessings that you have. Always be challenging yourself to go deeper in your relationship with God.
