The Reluctant Follower, Day 3

It’s just all too much! Read Jonah 1:7-12.
Have you met that person who seems super dramatic about everything? The smallest detail can be completely blown out of proportion. Everything in their life is a HUGE deal. If you’ve ever tried to give advice to people like that, it usually doesn’t work. You see, they are often not really trying to improve their situation. They actually like the drama and chaos that it creates. These people will often not be interested in your advice, or in trying to make the situation better. They just want to create a lot of drama instead.
Here we have Jonah who has been told that he should appeal to God. However, does he pray? No. Does he reach out to God? No. Does he repent or appeal to God? No. He doesn’t do anything that he knows he should be doing. Instead, Jonah just comes up with the answer that they should just kill him. Think about that. Jonah would rather die at this point than repent and obey God.
Jonah makes such a huge deal out of this. Instead of actually working to address the issue of his disobedience, he makes the decision to just have the sailors kill him. Are we so invested in our sin that we would rather make a huge issue out of it instead of repent and be obedient to God?
