The Reluctant Follower, Day 8

I will follow through. Read Jonah 2:9-9.
As Jonah concludes this prayer to God from the belly of a fish, I find some of his words interesting. Jonah says that he will sacrifice to God. Then, Jonah says that what he has vowed, he will make good.
It’s hard to think about what Jonah is going to set up to sacrifice while he remains in the belly of the fish. Still, Jonah’s attitude is one of returning to God. Jonah says next that what he has vowed, he will do. God’s word talks in several places about the importance of keeping your vows. You should not make a vow that you don’t intend to keep. So, it seems a little redundant for Jonah to say that he’s making a vow, and that he intends to keep it. But at the same time, he’s also in the belly of a fish, and he probably doesn’t really know how much life he has left.
Still, with what life he has, he makes a commitment to God that he is going to do what he says. Do we commit ourselves to God? Are we willing to make a vow that we will do what we say we’re going to do when it comes to our relationship with Christ. Jonah made that commitment from the belly of a fish. Are we willing to make that commitment from wherever we are in life right now?
