Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 15

Follow the crowd. Read Daniel 3:4-7.

It can be really easy to follow along through the crowd. There’s a lot less thought that has to go into our actions, and there’s not nearly as much pressure when you just do whatever around you does. However, often we find ourselves getting into trouble when we just blindly go along with the crowd. These people were told that they should bow down to this giant statue, and so everyone did. There wasn’t anything mentioned about people refusing to do this. We also get the idea that this wouldn’t have been that uncommon. A lot of countries considered their rulers a deity of sorts and so bowing down and worshiping their ruler or an image of their ruler wouldn’t have been that unusual.

What does the crowd around us do? What are we doing just because the people around us are doing something. Do we dress the way we dress because it follows the crowd? Do we speak the way we speak because it follows the crowd. Do we eat food that we eat because it follows the crowd. Instead, we should be intentional about following Christ and ensuring that every action we take, even the seemingly mundane ones, are done because we believe that’s the action that Christ would have his take.

As leaders, we can’t get hung up on what everyone else does. We must understand the best way to lead is to ensure we are following him in every area of our life and not just following the crowd.
