Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 17

Integrity. Read Daniel 3:13-18.

Every discussion of leadership needs to have a piece that is tied back to integrity. You truly cannot be a leader, if you do not have integrity. However, that looks different for different people at different times. Ultimately, for these 3 men, integrity looked like them standing before the King and refusing to bow down and worship, anyone or anything other than the one true God.

They managed that in an incredibly interesting way. They recognized that God could save them. They could live through the king’s wrath and the king’s punishment. God was capable of that, and they knew it. They shared that with the king. But, they also recognized that God might decide that it is more glorious to him for them to not live through the situation. They wanted the king to understand that they followed God, regardless of whether God chose to save them or not. They knew that God could save them, but they also knew that he’s God and he can choose and decide what he does with the power that he has.

They had integrity. They followed God because he was God, not because he was going to bless them in some way. They didn’t follow God just because he would save them at certain times. They followed God because he’s a God who is worthy of being followed. They want to make sure that the king understood their loyalty and worship. The one true God was worthy of their worship, and the king was not.

Do we have integrity in what we do? Are we following God because of what we think God will give us, or are we following God simply because he is worthy of being followed?
