Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 52

Saying you’re sorry. Read Daniel 9:1-3.

So one really likes saying they’re sorry. We do it and we tell other people to do it because we know that’s what we’re supposed to do. But, the actual, genuine act of repentance, and telling that feeling to others, is not something that we lean toward or get excited about doing.

True leaders understand power of repentance. They can genuinely and legitimately express their sorrow and repentance for things that they have done wrong. That is a powerful leadership characteristic and trait. While we all know that no one is perfect, we all like to pretend that we are or that we should be giving credit for our intentions, even if the actions didn’t turn out that way. That’s not how it works and as leaders, we still have to step up and take responsibility for the actions of our entire team.

Daniel was a leader and even though it had been many years and he had not been part of all the generations of Israelites who had turned from God, Daniel still chose to take responsibility and lead in repentance. Everyone wants to be a leader when everything is good and times are great, and we have success. Who are the people who are willing to be a leader when things fall apart and aren’t going well? That’s the definition of a true leader.
