Days of Wisdom, Day 29
Who do we trust and who do we fear? Read Proverbs 29.
As I consider verse 25, I have to think about who do we fear and who do we trust. As we go through life, there are often people that we are afraid of or situations that we are afraid of. We think about the people who have the power to hurt us or to make us feel uncomfortable or difficult. However in this verse, Solomon reminds us that we should truly only fear the one who is over everyone. We should fear the Lord, not people.
If we fear people, then we give them power and authority over us. They now have the ability to force us to do things because of our fear of them. However, if we are focusing on our fear of the Lord, then we follow his authority and we do the things he has asked us because of our respect and fear of him. Trusting in the Lord means safety. Trusting in someone who loves us and desires the best for us gives us the safety and security that we need. Are we focusing on our fear of the Lord and trust in him, or are we allowing fear of people to dictate our actions?
