VERSE: Job 31:35–“Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature; let the Almighty answer me! And the indictment which my adversary has written.” TRUTH: Job wanted an answer from God. He did not understand His situation and He wanted to know that God was listening to him and hearing him. When we’re going through hard times, it can be easy to think that God does not hear our cries, yet the God of the universe hears us when we call to Him. VERSE: Job 30:26–When I expected good, then evil came; when I waited for light, then darkness came.TRUTH: Often, if we have done what we would consider “good things,” and been obedient to the Lord, we expect to immediately receive good things in return. We must remember that our relationship with Jesus Christ does not mean that we will have all happiness and ease. We will still experience struggles and may not understand the reason. We are to trust Him, even in the midst of not understanding what He is doing. RESPONSE: Father, when I am expecting good, but feel I’ve received evil in its place, I get confused and frustrated.…

VERSE: Job 29:14–I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and turban. TRUTH: Job is remembering what things were like in the “good ol’ days.” He lists all the things He’s been involved in and all the good that he has done. He was looked up to and respected by all people. When we go through tough times it can be easy to spend all our time looking backward and thinking how it was so much better then. Instead, we should be looking forward to our eternal reward for being faithful and obedient to God. Are we looking backward or forward today? RESPONSE: Lord,…

VERSE: Job 28:20–Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding? TRUTH: What makes a person wise? How do we define wisdom? Job asks this question and later in the chapter answers it. Wisdom is the fear of the Lord and understanding is departing from evil. All the things we think we know so well, without the fear of the Lord, are nothing. Only through Him are we wise. RESPONSE: Lord, You are amazing and You are the source of all wisdom. Help me to remember this when I think I know so much. Forgive me when I substitute Your perfect wisdom with my faulty wisdom.…

VERSE: Job 27:8–For what is the hope of the godless when he is cast off, when God requires his life? TRUTH: I’ve often wondered how those who do not have God cope with the difficulties and injustices of life. Job asks the same. Even through the darkest of times, if we have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, we have a hope that others don’t. Do we place our hope in Him even when God allows us to go through difficulties? RESPONSE: Lord, You have my life and even if You take everything from me, I place my hope in You for You are the only thing worth hoping…

VERSE: Job 26:14–Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; and how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand! TRUTH: God is truly amazing! In this chapter, Job shares some of the amazing doings of God and then states in this verse that these are but the fringe of God, the very edge of His limitless potential. God is so big and so powerful, yet He is deeply concerned about the smallest detail of our life. We cannot fathom the love and care that He has for us. VERSE: Job 25:4–How then can a man be just with God? Or how can he be clean who is born of a woman? TRUTH: Ultimately, this is the question we all must ask. Why? VERSE: Job 24:25–Now if it is not so, who can prove me a liar, and make my speech worthless. TRUTH: Life is unfair and Job has just given lots of examples how. He challenges his friends, who have said that only bad things happen to bad people and good things happen to good people, to prove that he’s wrong. The fact is, it often seems that evil people prosper and the good are downtrodden.
