VERSE: Psalm 144:4–Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow. TRUTH: Because our senses are so attuned to what we see, hear, touch around us, it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that out lives here are temporary. Yet God created us as eternal beings that just spend a passing shadow of time on earth. Are we focusing on the eternal or do we become so focused on gaining “success” in just this shadow of life. TRUTH: So many things we encounter and go through are causes for frustration and anger. Who is the first person we voice our complaint to? It should be God. He knows all and hears all. He and He alone is the one we are to voice our concerns to. He then will bring about the people and the opportunities to further share with others, if that is what He would have us do. VERSE: Psalm 141:3–Lord, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. TRUTH: Guarding what we say is a difficult job. In James, it’s asked who can tame the tongue. The answer is that only God can control our tongues. We must allow Him to be in control of our mouth and the words that come from it. The mouth is such a powerful influence, it is a moment by moment job to keep it obedient to all that God wants. Only through Christ’s strength and allowing Him to guard the mouth, can it be done. VERSE: Psalm 140:4–Protect me, Lord, from the clutches of the wicked. Keep me safe from violent men who plan to make me stumble. TRUTH: I’ve heard some people say that it’s selfish and wrong to pray for yourself, yet the psalmist does that all the time. In this psalm, he’s praying to be rescued and kept safe from evil people intent on destroying his witness. As God’s children, He wants to see us, not necessarily safe, but fulfilling our purpose and calling.
