    Devotional – March 28, 2011

VERSE:Joshua 14:11–I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in.TRUTH:How could Caleb, who was 85 years old, say this? Because he knew where his strength came from. God is our source of strength and regardless of our physical age, God gives us the strength to accomplish all He has for us to do. Do we trust in Him for our strength?RESPONSE:Lord, help me never shy away from the tasks You’ve given me, knowing that the strength comes from You.

VERSE:Joshua 13:33–But to the tribe of Levi, Moses did not give an inheritance; the Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as He had promised them.TRUTH:Instead of land like the rest of their brothers, the tribe of Levi received God as their inheritance. When we think of receiving things from God, do we ask for more stuff and things, or do we ask to know Him more?RESPONSE:Lord, I want to know You more each day. Help me be open to receiving You and not just the stuff You provide.

VERSE:Joshua 12:7–Now these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the sons of Israel defeated beyond the Jordan toward the west…and Joshua gave it to the tribes of Israel as a possession according to their divisions.TRUTH:God had promised them the land, yet they still had to work and be obedient to be able to receive it. Are we willing to obey God and follow through to receive His promises?RESPONSE:Lord, help me obey You and do all that You ask of me to be rewarded with Your promises.

VERSE:Joshua 9:14–So the men of Israel took some of their provisions and did not ask for the counsel of the Lord.TRUTH:It’s so easy to just make decisions quickly so we can move on. However, God has insight that we do not and we need to look to Him for guidance on every decision we make, big or small.RESPONSE:Lord, help me to come to You with everything that I face, and not succumb to the pressure to make a snap decision without Your guidance.

VERSE:Joshua 8:30–The Joshua built an altar to the Lord, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal.TRUTH:Do we stop and give God the praise for the victories in our life? Joshua was victorious only because they followed God’s commands. After the victory, they stopped and praised God. Book Review – The Price of Trust by Amanda Stephan

I just couldn’t put it down! The Price of Trust by Amanda Stephan introduces us to a 24 year old, Carly, who is trying to desperately outrun her past. Trusting in God has become easy for Carly, given her past circumstances, but trusting in other people is almost impossible. When she finds herself in a small town with no job, no place to stay, only two suitcases to her name, and the problems from her past following fast on her heels, she has to learn how to trust the other people that God has placed in her life. I was drawn to the characters and found them to be well…

VERSE:Joshua 7:2–Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-aven east of Bethel, and said to them, “Go up and spy out the land.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.TRUTH:Joshua just moved on to the next thing, but he did not stop to confer with God. How often do we just go throughout our day doing the things we think we should be doing and only coming to God when things don’t work out?RESPONSE:Lord, help me seek You first throughout my day regardless of what task is coming next.
