Begin Again, Day 3

The Do-over. Read Joshua chapter 2.

A lot of times when we make mistakes and repent and come back to God, God allows us the opportunity to have the same temptation again so that we can show that we have grown and are willing and able to do better. That is exactly what happens in this chapter. The people of Israel get a do-over. They had previously had an opportunity to go and scout out The Promised Land before. Then, the spies had come back and said they were terrified, and it was too difficult. They said that they would never be able to conquer the land.

Now, 40 years later, after having gone through the consequences of that sin, they are right back at the same spot. They face the exact same temptation. Joshua sends scouts out into the land to spy out the land. These spies come back and give a report. They could have given the same type of report of being scared and being afraid that they wouldn’t be able to conquer the land. However, these scouts come back and they have seen how God is moving through the land. They understand that God is giving this land to the Israelite people. They come back with a report saying we can do this, let’s go!

When we begin again, we need to be prepared for the fact that we may face the very same types of temptations that we have faced and failed at before. God is going to allow us the opportunity to overcome our mistakes of the past. We come to God and we repent and God forgives us, but often God will give us an opportunity to prove that repentance, and ensure that we are doing everything that God wants us to do.

Are we making sure that we are standing fast in everything that God has given us to do? Don’t fall to the same mistake a second time.
