Begin Again, Day 28

Finish well. Read Joshua chapter 16.

As we read through this chapter of Joshua, we see the division of the land for the descendants from Joseph. They received land as part of their allotment in the promised land, but what we also see is that they did not finish well. They started the process of taking over the land and they began strong. However, they did not carry through God’s commands all the way to completion. Somewhere along the way they got sidetracked, they got focused on themselves, they stopped looking at the final goal, and ultimately, and they ended up falling short of achieving everything that God wanted them to achieve.

It’s so easy to start a race. It’s so easy to start a project or a new idea. It’s so complicated and hard to finish one. I have so many half started projects around my house, and as I look, I realize that I need to put forth the discipline and the consistency that it takes to make sure that I complete those projects. I cannot hope to accomplish everything that God has for me, if I cannot endure through the constancy that is required.

We need to make sure we are obedient to the Lord, and that we are doing that again and again and again. Are we finishing the work that God has us starting? What do we need to do to get back on track today?
