Begin Again, Day 8

Setting the stage. Read Joshua chapter 5.

We’re going to spend a couple of days in Joshua chapter 5, so we really need to understand verse one. Verse one sets the stage for everything else that happens in chapter 5 and makes it all the more meaningful. You see, the children of Israel have now crossed over to the west side of the Jordan. That means there’s no longer a river in between them and their enemies. Their enemies are directly in front of them, and could easily come out and attack them.

Because of that fact, knowing that God moves in such a way as to terrify all of Israel’s enemies is extremely important. As we look at what happens in the rest of this chapter, we’ll get into the specifics in the coming days and see just how amazing it truly is. But realize that the battle was already won for the Israelites. Their enemies were afraid to even face them.

When we are going through new circumstances, we can recognize that it’s God who impacts the hearts and the minds of our enemies. God sets the stage so that we can do everything he has led us to do. We don’t have to be afraid of what God is doing, because he is covering all the other bases. God made the enemies of Israel terrified of them. God can move in our lives in the exact same way as well. Do we recognize when God has set the stage for us to do great and amazing things?
