Begin Again, Day 9

Preparing for worship. Read Joshua chapter 5.

The Israelite people are preparing to worship God and to go to battle. They do that by renewing their commitment to him and also celebrating one of his festivals, the Passover. While it makes total sense that they would do this as a way to get ready for following Christ and doing his will, it doesn’t make as much sense when you think about what we talked about yesterday. The people had crossed over the Jordan river. They had removed any natural barriers between them and their enemies.

It is completely illogical that they would do this, and only because of God would this make sense. Circumcision is not something that Is to be taken lightly. It represents deep commitment to the Lord. But for the men, they had to heal after having that surgery done. Having all of the soldiers undergoing that procedure, it meant that they were extremely vulnerable.

The safest place to be is always exactly in the middle of God’s will, even when it doesn’t make logical sense to our human mind. From a military standpoint, doing what the Israelite people did… it’s completely crazy. When we think about the things in our life, often the things God has us doing seem to be completely crazy. They don’t make logical sense or follow a logical pattern that we understand. That’s why it’s so critical to recognize that God has to be in control, and that we have to be following him.

The Israelite people were completely safe because they were doing exactly what God had them to do. If we are following God, we are in exactly the right place, at exactly the right time, and God will take care of us. Are we following God, even when it puts us in positions that don’t make sense to our logical mind?
