The Voice of the Prophet, Day 38

“See my obedience.” Read Isaiah chapter 38.

King Hezekiah has fallen ill. We see in this chapter that despite the incredible victory that the people experienced in the last chapter, their king is not immune to the basic illnesses that still plague the area. He becomes sick and God let’s him know that he is going to die. Hezekiah, just like he has done many other times before, falls on his face and prays to God. He reminds God that he loves him and that he has done many great acts of obedience to God because he loves God. God hears his prayer and tells him that he will extend his life by 15 years.

If we learned that we were going to die, would we appeal to God to save us? What would be our reasoning and rationale? There have been many people over the years who have made promises to God in difficult circumstances. When God spared them, they went on to do amazing and incredible things for God. Would we be one of those?

There’s never any guarantee that God would choose to extend our life. God knows exactly what will bring the most glory and impact. Because we truly love God, whether he chooses to extend our life or not, we can continue to praise Him. In a lot of ways, we can look at our waking up each morning and God’s choice to extend our lives another day. What are we going to do with that day? What impact are we going to have in the kingdom and for God today?
