Observations from the Doctor, Day 7

What does Jesus say and do? Read Luke chapter 6.
Today, as we read through Luke chapter 6, we get a much better picture of the kinds of things that Jesus was doing and also the kinds of things Jesus was teaching. Interestingly, the chapter starts out with some things that Jesus did. Now these things were controversial and the source of a lot of frustration from the religious leaders of the day.
Jesus was healing people which was fine, but he was doing that at a time and in a way that they didn’t feel like was appropriate. Healing definitely constituted work. Work on the sabbath was prohibited. But, Jesus wanted them to understand that God made the sabbath as a way to rejoice and to celebrate God. The sabbath was not just something to keep people’s hands tied, which was how many of the religious leaders viewed it.
Then, Luke goes into several of the teachings of Jesus. Jesus wanted the people to understand what God’s word was all about, what God was saying to them, and how God wanted to relate to them. We see these words reflected through every teaching that Jesus mentions here. Are we doing the things that God has us to do and are we learning from the teachings that God gives us?
