Observations from the Doctor, Day 8

The picture of faith. Read Luke chapter 7.
Of the many stories of faith and miracles and healing throughout Luke chapter 7, this story of the centurion’s sick servant always has stuck out to me. This was a man who had heard of Jesus but had never met him. He sent servants to Jesus because he didn’t feel worthy to come to him himself. He didn’t even want Jesus to come under his roof because he knew he was a sinner. Yet, he appealed to Jesus to please save his servant knowing that Jesus could do that from wherever he was.
This is an incredible picture of faith in action. When we talk about having faith in God but then want to see God do things in our life first or “prove himself” to us, is it really and truly faith? Faith is understanding and knowing that God is going to do what he’s going to do, and that he has the power over everything, no matter where he is.
This centurion knew that Jesus had authority over the whole entire Earth, and that is why Jesus didn’t have to be standing right next to his sick servant in order to heal him. This centurion acted out his faith. Do we act out our faith in God? Do we recognize God’s authority over every area of our life? Even if we don’t see how he’s going to impact the situation we can have faith that he can do it from wherever he is. Jesus has authority over everything in this world. Does our faith reflect that truth?
