Observations from the Doctor, Day 9

Pay attention, even if you don’t completely understand. Read Luke 8:1-21.

Reading through Luke, chapter 8, we’re actually going to split up the chapter a little bit. In the first part of this chapter, we see Jesus speaking and teaching the people. But, he is using storytelling to do it. He makes the statement that whoever has ears to hear, let them hear. Most of us all have ears, but not many of us choose to actually hear truth with them.

Jesus is speaking in parables. By speaking in storytelling, not everybody understood exactly what Jesus was saying. Jesus wanted his meaning to be understood, but he also realized that not everybody was ready to understand the truth that he was trying to share. God gives people what they need when they need it and in a way they will be able to understand.

Some people choose not to listen at all, but those who want to hear from God, will hear from God. They may not agree with what they hear and they may not always like what they hear, but God doesn’t hide his truth from people who are seeking him. If we have ears, we still have to make a choice to listen.

As Jesus teaches these parables are we choosing to listen to his truth and to obey what he says today? Even when the truth is hard and if we don’t always completely agree, that doesn’t change the fact that it is truth. God’s truth is not relative and it does not alter even if it’s uncomfortable. Are we choosing to follow God’s truth today.
